The vacation will continue until morale improves.

Of necessity, the vacation will continue — “necessity” in this case being that my computer started whining about “imminent hard drive failure” on Thursday.  All my files are safe thanks to backups, but I need to wait until my new computer arrives to reinstall graphics programs, font managers, etc.  Your patience is of course appreciated.


  1. Considering what happened the last time you had a hard drive failure… well, let’s just say it’s a good thing your computer started whining about its imminence this time instead of going into denial about it.

    1. To be fair, that last time was my host’s server, not my personal hard drive… and unlike my host at that time, I’ve been backing up assiduously.

            1. I haven’t. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Dreamhost, but I think the last time I was looking for hosting I narrowed it down to Hostgator or Bluehost.

              1. Thanks! I’ve been with Fatcow since 1999. They’ve been going downhill since 2010. Prices have skyrocketed, customer service wait times are ridiculous (90 mins today for a 60 second chat), and I’m getting harassed by one of their new partners, SiteLock. It thinks WordPress is malware and keeps threatening to shut me down.
