Actually, this is not too far removed from how many speculators in the 19th century really planned towns in the far west. Many was the poor fool who bought lots on what he thought was a growing metropolis but was in reality just a field with a smattering of shacks.
This is also the thinking by which a lot of the Chinese “ghost cities” came to be built here in the 21s century. The free market does indeed take care of itself; that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to take care of you.
