Given that Twinkies are basically just a standard kind of yellow cake numerous pastry manufacturers know how to make formed into a specific shape and stuffed with a standard kind of pastry cream those manufacturers also know how to make (and used in many of their other products), it’s amazing there aren’t more imitations out there. My late mother even had a “Twinkie Cake” recipe (which we’ve never used since her passing, since it’s full of fat, sugar, and calories, and none of us can metabolize those things as effectively as we used to when we were younger and thinner).
