He’s kinda like the genies in that dungeon crawler game UnNetHack, who can only grant wishes for non-magical objects; which makes coming up with ideas for how to spend such wishes considerably more difficult, although with enough imagination, the player can score some really useful stuff this way. (In addition to some of the items mentioned at the link, one of my favorites is wishing for a blessed iron safe: in addition to such safes typically being generated with a fair amount of random treasure inside, a player who’s gathered enough of the right kinds of objects and/or skills in the game already can stuff all the useless junk in the area back into the safe after looting those treasures from it, polymorph himself into a metal-eating xorn, and then eat the safe, thus providing himself with considerable nutrition while clearing out useless items and thereby reducing clutter in his game’s save file.)
