  1. Fun fact: a policy governing all food pantries in my state (including the one where I volunteer) forbids us from handing out anything in a package that’s been breached, including household cleaning and hygiene items. As such, if some kindly donor gives us a six-pack of toothbrushes (typically purchased from a local dollar store), even if each toothbrush in the pack is individually “bubble” wrapped, we can’t just break up the pack and divide the toothbrushes among several of the singles and couples we almost always have as our clients. Thus, we either have to wait for a (rare) family of six to turn up as one of our clients and hand out the entire six-pack to it, or give it to a (more common) family of three and say something like “Here, each of you use one of these in the morning and another in the evening.”
